,
Each week in this newsletter I share posts from the archives. As the new year began, I started to share a post from a year ago, five years ago and ten years ago, and I am enjoying going through the posts from 10 years ago quite a bit.
In fact today's 10 year post is The Journey and the
Destination, and it was the quote included which I will share again below that was something I needed to read and remember, as a message of reassurance.
“have you ever realized that when ..
people say you’ve changed
it’s just because you’ve stopped
living your life ... their way”
Sometimes, we can find ourselves frustrated with life because we cannot see our lives mirrored in the way others are living. After all, we are, to one degree or another, social creatures and want to feel included. Whether it be in grand or seemingly small ways, when we have attempted with great effort to be seen and hopefully find other
individuals or groups who understand us or are similar to us in the way we wish someone would be similar, but without success, it can be tempting to assimilate.
But to acquiesce to becoming something we are not, is to let go of the light that the world needs to see. The majority of the world or the majority of people in our life may not understand or agree with who we truly are and how we know our lives need to be for us to feel truly content, but we cannot let the lack of the majority stop us.
Given time great changes can be made, but they can never inch toward the change we seek if we are not courageous enough to be who we truly are.
There were examples this week aplenty whether in the news as well as in my everyday life where I saw people being courageous enough to be who they are, abide by their core principles and soldier forward even if the majority didn't follow. Perhaps you have your own examples that immediately come to mind. Authenticity feels good even when
it doesn't look easy to the outside onlooker, and that is one of the many gifts of being true to yourself. I encourage you to read the archived post mentioned above if you need encouragement to remain true to yourself. Without a doubt, you will receive a wonderful boost when you
do.
