,
Even when you bring the sunshine, some people will be determined to bring the clouds (complete with piercing rain and lightning). While our response may initially be one of determination not to let the shade and stormy weather win, sometimes, we just have to take our sunshine some place else.
I found myself in that predictament this week when it came to workday lunches. There are more than a handful of people with whom I enjoy lunch, many more than a handful I am fortunate to share, but after time away from those who may bring the clouds which is why I steer clear, I sometimes forget that my energy to bring some sort of levity or sunshine will never matter. And I will admit, I kick
myself later thinking this time will be different as a restorative and restful lunch is needed during days at work which requires of us all our full attention and best work (let me also admit, not always is my sunshine beaming as there are “days”, but I try to consciously not thwart others’ sunshine, in fact, I appreciate it immensely in such dimmed moments).
I share my example to hopefully remind you to go easy on yourself when you find yourself making a mistake you thought you had already learned never to make again. Whether it is due to extreme stress or reduced willpower, sometimes we will make a similar mistake, one we know we knew better than to make. The key is to recognize it, and correct it when we can. Perhaps the good news
is to be applauded when we recognize our mistake because in so doing we are sharing with ourselves that we actually did learn the lesson, but also reminding ourselves that we are human as well. :)
Life certainly keeps us on our toes, and if we are the curious and determined sort, we can dance at sometimes and others times trip over our own feet for trying to do something new or new-to-us. Keep stepping, keep trying whether you know the song or not, know the choreography or not, that is what deserves an applause, and if others scoff, leave them to their clouds and take your sunshine to
those (of which there are many) who will delight in what you have to share.
