A student recently shared with me this week that she had had the most wonderful day - staying home and reading all day. The delight on her face displayed her genuine glee of discovery of how wonderful the day was and a longing for it to happen some day soon, but fearing that would not be the case. Of course, I agreed and expressed my complete understanding savoring such a day, which reminded me of how comforting, supportive and joy-filled days such as the
student described can be in our everyday lives.
To make a regular habit of cozying into our favorite chair, surrounding ourselves with books and reading material is arguably not a luxury, but a necessity - especially for those of us who find ourselves re-energized after time to read and escape with a book or advance our understanding on a topic about our current curiosities.
I have had the opportunity to read an advance copy of Nina Freudenberger's upcoming decor book Bibliostyle, and with each profiled individual's story of how they welcome books into their homes, what I learned invigorated my motivation to make a priority the creation of a cozy reading nook in my home. From novelist Jonathan Safran Foer's reminder
"Having a comfortable chair, good light — these things do put you into a state of mind to better absorb ideas" to business owner Roman Alonso's description of his love for his reading nook which is a shelf-filled room that includes a daybed, a colorful assortment of books and records and other unique pieces of art, "I love spending time in my reading nook at home, beneath all my books, looking through them for inspiration. They are like old friends to me, and I miss them when I don't visit
them", I became even more excited to snuggle up more often, carve out time more regularly and lose all track of time. Such moments are not only invigorating but offer a grounding from which to spring forth toward a new dream, idea or simply savor the goodness that already is and what we are reading makes us appreciate it more fully.
Perhaps this weekend you will be able to find some time to read, or perhaps you will be inspired to carve out time during your everyday routine to read in your favorite reading nook more often. However, you welcome reading into your life, may it spark the ideas that are waiting to be found within you to reveal themselves, and may every time you snuggle in to read
you find comfort, calm and absolute joy.
In this week's newsletter there are a couple of books that are shared in This & That that may catch your eye as well as one shared in my IG feed that has recently piqued mine. Fashion Month wrapped up this week in Paris, and Paris certainly did put a effortlessly stylish end to the festivities. Be sure to check out this week's Style
Inspiration for my favorite picks from the shows in the City of Light. As well, snow fell in Bend this past weekend (yep, in September!), and it turned out to be wonderful inspiration for two of my posts this week, as well as unexpected pics that I could not help but share. Thank you for choosing to subscribe to TSLL's weekly newsletter, and until next Friday, I will see
you on the blog. Bonne journée.
