Wrapping up the details and planning for a warm welcome.
This week on the blog I shared some big-news-for-me news. TSLL, as of last Friday, has its own home in Bend, Oregon. I will let you read the post to discover indeed how over-the-moon happy I am to spare you excessive gushing, but as we will be moving into the house this weekend (by we, I mean myself, Oscar and Norman :)), this past week has been unique.
Whenever a transition arrives in our lives, whether we seek it out or not, it is fraught with new or less familiar emotions. Navigating them, observing them and trying to make sense of them can be perplexing, but on the flipside, rich with reason to celebrate for a new and unknown next chapter that is ready to begin.
As much as I want to rush to move into my house, I am also grateful for this week to get everything in place before I arrive. From wrapping up well the rental that has been home for four years, extending my gratitude to those who gave more in kindness and neighborhorly friendship than they had to and simply savoring the luxuries that have been afforded to me living in this location. I do know that I
have many new luxuries awaiting me where I am going, but trying to remember and acknowledge what most likely will never be again is one approach I have learned that helps along the journey so that we do not under appreciate all that we have, and in so doing, do not toss away thoughtlessly all the good that we have found.
As well, I am putting into place details so that the first weekend in my home is as welcoming as possible. Yesterday, the first dog door I have ever had in a home was installed. Oscar isn't quite sure about it yet, but Norman is game! A new favorite French candle is waiting to be enjoyed, and a new journal for the home as well to record plans, dreams and dinner party menus.
It can be tempting to race through moments in our lives when we are confident that what we are racing toward is far better than where we are or the culmination of many years of work and effort, but we reveal our confidence in the future that will be when we slow down to savor what is right now surrounding us.
I am so excited to settle in and begin cultivating my sanctuary, but the peace of mind that we bring with us whether we are moving into a new home or not is the best companion we can have to cultivate rich and wonderful everydays. Yesterday as I was finishing putting the door back on its hinges, the rain began to fall, and by the time the sun had set, it was raining as well as thundering. A beautiful evening indeed, and
I savored every sweet scent of the rain-filled fresh air.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend whether it is short or long. Until next Friday, I will see you on the blog. Bonne journée.
