Reflection.
While living in the present is necessary on a regular and daily basis to live a truly contented life, sometimes, reflecting upon our past can be a source of fuel to enable us fly into the future we desire.
Years can pass before we find the time and the insight that our past has been waiting patiently for us to find, then mine and then finally pay gratitude.
It can be easy and understandable that we fall into ways of living that get us by, that don't ruffle any feathers, but when it is against our true nature, when it asks us to be less, we are shrinking ourselves and sheltering from the world what we can uniquely bring.
Defaults are easier than we may first think to fall into if we are applauded for going along, if we are applauded for not going against the crowd which would force people to consider new ideas, to see things differently, and it may make it easier to sleep at night . . . for a while. Then, we begin to remember what we are truly capable of, what we have done in the past, who we used to be in the past and what we refused to accept in the past.
The past for each of us will differ. For some, it may only be last year, for others, decades ago. It need not matter how long ago our past, that wishes to be remembered, took place. What matters is that we remembered. And it is even more important that we not dismiss or continue to forget, but instead apply what we know is true to who we are and what we are capable of.
I had such a moment recently, and it was as though a burst of fresh air was pumped into my lungs. I am thankful for the inspiration that provided the wake-up call, and I am reminded that when we feel stuck or uncertain, we simply need to leave gaps or moments during our days to catch our breath, moments for our mind to wander, because that is how a new idea can enter. And when it speaks to us, when it lights us up, then when recognize a "before" and an "after".
Recognizing the awesomeness of the past that was and now is asking to be part of what is is an awesome gift. Use it for fuel. Use it to power your wings as you leave the ground and fly like you were meant to if only you hadn't forgotten how. But now you know, so fly, and soar, and enjoy.
Speaking of flying, let's fly into the last weekend of April. I must admit, I do love April. There is a lift that occurs, and it truly is inspiring (case in point, today's letter shared above). I hope your April has been going well, and I hope the last few days go swimmingly. Last weekend, I came across a film that moved me to my toes, and so you will find a post dedicated entirely to it. Readers as well have shared how much they have enjoyed this film, and I hope you do as well. That
was an extra post this week, and so additionally, you will find all of the weekly posts you expect, and the monthly post that is a favorite of mine to curate and a favorite of readers to enjoy.
I do hope you enjoy this week's newsletter, and thank you for subscribing. Have a lovely weekend, and until next Friday, I'll see you on the blog.
