,
Well, this is 2019.
We are in it, and it is ours to make what we desire, dream and hope it can be. So what exactly do you want it to be?
Recently, I was thinking about the concepts of "Becoming" vs. "Being". And while we are always evolving, growing and moving forward in life either consciously or unconsciously, that in essence is a "becoming". At the same time, if we are always in the mindset of attempting to "become" something, we are not "being" present. Keeping this observation in mind, I did my best to
self-assess.
I have spent many a year intentionally trying to "become" something, but I cannot honestly say I have intentionally directed myself to just "be". Perhaps that is part of the culture, part of my upbringing or simply who I am, but the more I get to know myself, the more I know that this has been taught to me and I have accepted it for the most part because I see the benefits of striving to "become" my best
self.
However, at this moment, I am intentionally putting forth the energy to shift from "becoming" my best self and "becoming" the Shannon that I desire to be and just "be" who I am and just "be" Shannon.
I have intentionally put forth the energy, curiosity, plans, and courage to become my best self. After all, my journey is what inspired my new book which in the very subtitle states "become your best self", and because of what I learned and because of how my own life has evolved, I have eagerly shared what I have discovered. But once so much "becoming" has taking place,
we need to trust that we are on the right path, we are doing our best and let ourselves just "be".
It has only been a week or so of the new year, and as I share in this week's Wednesday's post, I have been doing my best to check the defaults that I recognize are not helpful. One such default has to do with my phone, and so far this week, I have noticed a wonderful positive change enabling me to be more present, and as a by product, less tugged, and more calm, and
ultimately, more productive. I am going to continue to keep at it for a while before I share specific details about this change, but many of the changes I am attempting have to do with remembering the times and moments in my life when I felt most at peace, present and content. What was I doing, how was I living that made it so? And so far, I am finding and applying some worthwhile ideas.
Simply because we choose to "be" does not mean we cannot grow, change or progress. It simply means we are choosing to let go a bit more, relax a bit more and enjoy the life we have created thus far a bit more.
So to "being". Enjoy riding the wave of progress to savoring the life you have worked so hard to create for yourself and those you love.
In today's newsletter, this week's podcast episode was one of the top downloaded episode of the season and full of ideas for elevating the quality of your daily life. This week's This & That is overflowing with books, shows, shopping items and more with the longest list I have ever shared, and the Petit Plaisir is a French film I truly adored and savored this past weekend and was tickled to
share with you. There is also a few more posts - the Golden Globes inspired this week's Style Inspiration and the Outfit of the Week is, as one reader commented, something that will relax you just thinking about wearing it, but also make you feel incredible for your day job.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend and thank you for subscirbing to TSLL's weekly newsletter. Until next Friday, I'll see you on the blog!
