A feeling of coming home. What is home?
There are concepts of home others insert into our vocabulary, and thus our subconscious, because of what they know to be true for them or what they know sounds good to an audience, and
sometimes we will trust their definition. After all, our definition cannot be that much different than theirs . . . right? Oh, but we would be mistaken.
After all, "home" is a place which offers sanctuary. Sanctuary to be untethered, to be our most authentic selves, to be certain of security, to be at ease and fully capable of being present without pretense or wall building.
Yes, sometimes "home" is where we grew up, sometimes it is a
far away destination, but always, home should be our very own skin in which we live every single day. While we can amplify our home in an environment we inhabit, knowing we can be home wherever we may be is a most powerful and soothing gift to give our minds and our beings.
I once shared that I felt as if another offered the feeling of coming home. Sadly I was mistaken, but the most amazing gift was learned from that mistake. The gift was realizing I was more at
home in my home company and needed to acknowledge more consciously this fact. Reaching the ability to find such calm, clarity and peace in our own company is a means to knowing with less doubt where else we may find ourselves to be home. However, if we begin the search without realizing we need to find home within ourselves first, we will never truly find "home" elsewhere because our compass will never accurately be calibrated.
Over the past weekend I spend time
with a dear friend. It had been years since I'd be an overnight guest at her home, and it was the feeling of being comfortable with my own company no matter where I found myself that made me appreciate ever more the feeling of home her sanctuary provided for the weekend.
Being able to compare the past experience and the most current, the only difference was the growth I had undergone as a person, and that made all the difference in feeling more at peace, more
centered and more able to fully enjoy my experience.
May we all find our "home" and continue to reside within it and take it with us wherever we may travel or reside.
Speaking of residing, I will be residing at my abode in Bend this weekend, and I cannot wait to do so. With an itinerary that is loose and leisurely, I plan on dreaming, walking, napping, reading, editing, viewing and loving. How about you? Where will you be enjoying
your home this weekend?
Before I forget! I neglected to share some exciting news with TSLL Weekly Newsletter Subscribers last week. Mark your calendars for Monday November 6th and be sure to tune in to The Simple Sophisticate podcast. Why?
David Leibovitz.
I probably do not need to say more, but I will. Forgive me. Parisian based
food blogger and renowned chef and cookbook author, David Leibovitz has
a new book coming out. (I had the chance to read an advance copy, and it is a wonderful memoir full of his journey to buy his first apartment in Paris, sprinkled with the delights of living in his new home in the
City of Light for nearly 15 years now - you are going to devour it as I did no doubt.) And he will be joining me to talk about it on the November 6th episode of the podcast. If you have any questions you would like me to ask him, email me by Monday October 30th, and I will certainly add them to my list.
Okay, now to the weekend! Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
