ISSUE #338

Yesterday morning while in my walk-in closet deciding what to wear, I found a pair of dark denim skinny jeans that I hadn't worn in months. Upon trying them on, and being reminded as to why I purchased them, as I loved how they felt, I scolded myself for absent-mindedly letting them be placed at the bottom of my stack of jeans.

Pulling the jeans on after so many months also revealed to me the little changes to my eating habits and work-out regimen have been reaping a few wonderful rewards, and as I paired them with Vince suede D'Orsay pumps, a simple blazer and black Rag & Bone tee, I began to see parallels to life.

Sometimes the seasons of each year and thus our lives shift subtly and seemingly not at all, while at other times, the seasons are abrupt and immediately call for us to respond, letting go of lesser tasks and demands. In some instances, swift changes offer an opportunity to put our life's priorities into perspective, but on other occasions, we can leave behind vital routines, habits and ways of living that served us well when the change takes place without much warning.

Life has a way of moving us swiftly forward whether we want to or not, and as the journey is propelled forward it is up to each of us to remember our strengths, our dreams, our hopes and what we each have to offer the world.

While finding the forgotten pair of jeans was a simple surprise to rediscover, it reminded me of something recently I had forgotten regarding my strengths. And upon being reminded of how vital such a strength was, I've picked myself up, straightened my tie so-to-speak and am looking forward to striving forward once more.

How about you? What have you let slip that is crucial to exuding your best self? Perhaps your smile, your confidence, your laugh or maybe an activity that always brought you to life? Whatever it is, bring it back. And remember, just because something is lost, doesn't mean it cannot be found, polished and put back into practice.

Speaking of being put back into practice, the weekend has arrived and with it a time to step away from work and enjoy a little rest and relaxation. In this week's newsletter, the One Month At a Time Year of Quality continues with a post wrapping up January's successes and lessons learned and kicking off February. Readers have shared they are enjoying the month by month goals rather than focusing on one large goal for the entire year, and I must say, I am too. Such an approach offers a taste of what progress feels like and gives us each the opportunity to continue if the results are what we had hoped.

The Simple Sophisticate podcast this week focused on Emotional Intelligence: what is it, what are the benefits and how to improve it. A powerful skill to live well. And now to let you dive into this week's issue. I do hope you have a wonderful weekend doing whatever it is you will be up to, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
