ISSUE #326
,

I would be remiss if I didn't mention a momentous occasion that took place this week. An occasion many thought would have happened ages ago, and partially because it hasn't, many nearly gave up hope. The Chicago Cubs after 108 long (that seems like such an insufficient word) . . . excruciatingly long years of waiting to earn the title of World Champions finally captured the elusive Commissioner's trophy.

I was one of the many who tuned in on Wednesday night for what turned out to be one of the best, if not the best (Boston Red Sox had a few), baseball games I've ever seen. And one of the many parts that struck me as worthy of celebration was the Cleveland fans. The Indians put up a wail of a fight. Chicago had to unquestionably earn their long-sought dream (now Cleveland holds the longest drought with 68 years since their last title), but the fans of Cleveland being the true sports fans that they are, tipped their hat to their rivals. After all, leaving the battle on the field is the mark of a true sportsman.

I couldn't help but contemplate the length of 108 years. Mark Twain was still alive after all, one of my most beloved American authors, and sadly, yes, women weren't even allowed to vote yet in the United States in 1908 (earning the 19th amendment in 1920). So much has changed, so much has been discovered, learned and created. So much has happened as we are now surely in the 21st century. Perhaps there are many lessons we can derive from the Cubbies, but one sticks in my mind. It might be the most obvious, or maybe the lessons that speak to us most glaringly are the lessons we are seeking and are trying to make sense of each in our own lives. The lesson of perseverance.

Sometimes we aren't ready, sometimes the world isn't ready for what we have to offer, but since we can never predict when this fortuitous combination will arise, we must refuse to give up. We must, once we know what we seek, ardently pursue what we know is possible for ourselves, our lives and our world. We must not give up. We must not lose hope. Even at the bottom of the eighth when Cleveland evened the score at 6-6, true believers and most importantly, the players, didn't give up. Doubt only has power if we feed it. Stop fueling what you don't want in your life, and start feeding what you do. Good advice from a team that never gave up hope.

Speaking of feeding the life we want to live, this week on the blog is full of inspiration about empowering your love life, determining what you truly want and a fantastic This & That full of food, film, and France. I do hope you enjoy.

Don't forget, for my readers in the states: Daylight Saving Time (did you know it is "saving", not savings?) is this weekend. Which means we get to enjoy an additional hour of sleep or an hour of doing what we love on Sunday. :) Thank you as always for choosing to subscribe to TSLL weekly newsletter. I hope you have a most wonderful weekend. And until next week, I'll see you on the blog!
