There are certain quotes and aphorisms that I come across now in my late thirties that finally are resonating with me. In fact, it is just these quotes that when I happened upon them when I was younger, I couldn't fathom how what they were stating could possibly be true or even a good thing.

The quote that recently fit just this description for me was "Life doesn't get easier. You just get better at being able to handle it." Initially, years ago, this quote presented an absolutely dreary proposition for getting older and advancing in life, but just this past week, I took a moment to look at my life and many of the things that I had chosen to put on my plate and some I had not, and I realized I was handling it all quite well. And it was as I was driving home one day that this quote came to mind.

No more did this quote appear dreary to me but rather a reminder of learning from past life lessons, learning to trust myself and my ability to respond and deal effectively with whatever crossed my path. It was in that moment that I embraced and came to appreciate this quote for it was a reminder that I was maturing. I was no longer the young, naive girl who worried at the drop of the hat. I was no longer the girl who needed everything to be perfect. And knowing those personas had been shed was liberating and exhilarating.

Knowing we can be our best advocate, knowing we can remain strong and calm even when we wished what we had to deal with would just get fixed, would just happen, would just hurry up, is a tip of the hat to our ability to incorporate calm habits into our lives. As is discussed in this week's episode of the podcast, instilling calm habits into our daily lives can make a tremendous difference on the quality of the life we live no matter what happens outside of our control.

Today, take a moment to ponder how you have evolved, how you have matured. Because I have a feeling you have grown in enormous ways that sometimes we forget and should be reminded of. Because frankly, what we are doing, and who we are and are striving to be is pretty amazing.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. While I will be staying put, I am looking forward to some favorite activities and outings, perhaps a paddle, maybe a jaunt to the theater to see Bridget Jones' Baby. Whatever it will be, I am looking forward to it immensely. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog!
