The rain came down Wednesday afternoon, and it came down ferociously hard. It didn't ask for approval. It didn't check to see if the sidewalks and streets had been swept so as to avoid clogged drains. It didn't even hint that we wouldn't need to water our lawns for the day, saving on the water bill. It came because the clouds burst and the circumstances were ideal for gully washers to have their way with the town of Bend. It came because it was time.

Similar to spring storm clouds that douse the ground with intense moments of moisture, our lives can burst as well: for fantastical amazing experiences as well as the not-so-wanted variety. A build-up occurs, a stress point can no longer endure the pressure and a release is needed. There are many ways to avoid the negative bursts: be proactive, find balance, know your limits, understand your feelings and be strong enough to know how to deal with them even when it is uncomfortable. But when it comes to the celebratory moments, much of this is out of our control as far the timing is concerned.

The part, the quite significant part, that is in our control is the pressure we can build to help stack the odds in our favor that something wonderful is more likely to occur than not. We can fine-tune our discipline, have clear goals, be the person we want to be around, find our voice and practice patience. We have so much more control over the life we wish to cultivate than we realize. Mastering our minds, check. Refusing to be stopped by frustration, check. Finding courage to push forward, check.

We all know that life is finite, but what we sometimes forget is that  eventually a cloud needs to burst. And if we keep showing the universe that we are sincere about our direction and passion, windows gradually open, and then doors. And then we are crossing the threshold and sitting down at the dinner table. A couple of mixed metaphors today, but I have a feeling you understand the intent. Life is full of energy, and it has go somewhere. We each might as well make it work in our favor.

I don't know about you, but I am absolutely tickled that the weekend has arrived. While I am très fatiqué (very tired), I am excited to have a weekend to do as I please. While this will be the first Mother's Day I haven't been able to spend it with my mom in quite some time, after having spoken with her this week, I already know she will be doing well and feeling the love of spring and all its new ventures (love you Mom!). To all the moms out there, I want to wish you a wonderful special day. And for doggie and cat mamas as well, thank you from one furry baby mama to another for sharing your time and compassion with our four-legged companions. And for everyone, enjoy this first full May weekend. Gobble all of its lusciousness up and savor the everyday simple pleasures. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
