,
When spring begins to arrive, it comes with many different exciting and long-anticipated events that can only be appreciated in spring. While this is true with each of the seasons, spring, for me has always offered moments to shift, grow, progress and shed the ill-fitting past.
Sometimes what needs to be shed are clothes that no longer fit my signature style or fit as well as they should, sometimes a way of life needs to change: location, job or relationships, and sometimes, a way of thinking needs to change. The self-talk that runs through our minds each day we are going about the
life we have chosen to live is what will be the soundtrack of our lives. If we are humming a cheerful sunny song such as the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun", we see events with a filter that glosses over the minor hiccups and reminds us of how fortunate we are, but if we are humming Sarah McClauchlan's "Fallen" it can be more difficult to see through the fog that has been self-made (don't get me wrong, I adore Sarah's music, but there are a few that are ideal for wallowing, which sometimes we need
to do before we can move on).
Whatever needs to be revamped, have the courage to get your hands dirty and do it. While time will need to pass once you make the decision, eventually, if you stick to the change
you have pinpointed as necessary, the life you have imagined will begin to unfold and gradually become your reality. And as you begin to consider your mental soundtrack, I'll leave you with Monty Python's "Always Look on the Brightside of Your Life". After all, how can you not listen to this and add a skip to your step?
In this week's newsletter, the This & That is full of items I cannot wait to enjoy. From a documentary on Nora Ephron to Barefoot Contessa's new cookbook. Be sure to take a look. Also, Wednesday's Why Not . . . ? was all about fashion and sprucing up your
spring wardrobe. Having included a few items to shop directly, be sure to take a look if you prefer navy, dresses and/or stripes. And in this week's episode of The Simple Sophisticate, a book I talked about last week and devoured over the past weekend. Whether you are single or married, don't be fooled by the title as the post/episode offers a thoughtful list of ways single women are helping us all to live our best lives.
And on that note, by this time next Friday, Spring will have officially arrived. Enjoy the commencement of a new and bright season! Have a wonderful weekend, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog!
