As each new year begins, the hope of a better us, a better life, dances around in our daydreams. But as I mentioned in last's week's newsletter, sometimes we can become doubtful or even worried that we dreamt for too much or wished to attain the impossible. With today's newsletter I'd like to address the idea of worry.

What if you didn't achieve what you set out to do on January 1st? What if you tried, did your absolute best and only achieved half of what you hoped? What if you only memorized and became half as fluent in your new language as you had planned? What if?

What if you did learn more of the language you knew nothing about, even though it wasn't as much as you wanted? Then you know more than you knew at the end of 2015. What if you only achieved half of anything or even a quarter of anything you set out to achieve? You are further than you were had you done nothing.

In two separate incidents over the past six weeks I have been reminded of how to deal with worry that is dancing around in my mind. And each time I am reminded my mind is put at ease, and I realize I have been excessively worrying needlessly.

So how should we deal with worry? Imagine the worst case scenario of whatever it is that you are considering: they don't accept your offer, you get turned down, nobody buys your product, you don't become fluent in six months, etc. What do you do now? What will you do when the worst case scenario occurs? More often than not, you may have come to the realization that I did which is, I will be fine and I will have gained experience and demonstrated to myself that I was courageous enough to try.

Needless to say, no matter what your progress is with your 2016 resolutions, non-resolutions, goals or whatever you may be calling them, so long as you do your best, the worst case scenario is probably not as bad as you are building up in your mind. Lean into the options, take a close look and what you will probably find won't be as scary as you might have imagined. So go ahead, give it your best shot. I have a feeling you will be glad you did.

Speaking of giving it your best shot and not knowing what the outcome will be, this week's episode of The Simple Sophisticate was all about bravery and turned out to be one of the top downloaded episodes. if you're looking for a little boost or a reminder to keep putting yourself out there, be sure to tune in.

As we move into February this week, I do hope you are doing well and striving strong toward the goals you have set. However, along the journey be sure to enjoy the everyday because that is were the treasure of living well resides. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog!
