The hustle and bustle of the holiday season can sometimes feel like a chore, and as it follows the hustle and bustle of everyday life, perhaps a different approach is called for.
As I was decorating my house this past weekend, considering what I would and would not include while I was decorating the tree and the living room, I quickly realized that while more than a few items wouldn't be used as my house is smaller, I selected to include even fewer than my house could have withstood.
The first benefit was that it took far less time to decorate allowing me more time to enjoy and appreciate what I did select to put up, and secondly, it was easier on my budget.
From selecting a smaller tree, which needed less support and apparatus, to limiting the candles and vases, it quickly occurred to me that even when it came to holiday decor, less is more.
Each of us has our particular tastes, but if we think more of anything is a good idea, look outside at Mother Nature. Look at the careful balance of moisture and sun that is necessary to create the foliage and landscapes we enjoy and need to live in. Look at the sincere and honest love you share with your partner or a dear friend. Do we need more? No, we merely need pure and revered quality
that is appreciated and not abused.
Now you may be wondering how does this correlate with a reduction of the hustle and bustle? When we expend less time and fewer resources doing things and buying things that actually are not going to improve the
quality of our lives, we open up a window for more time to enjoy the life we've created for ourselves. What a wonderful gift we give ourselves and those we love, no?
In this week's newsletter you'll find an episode of the podcast inspired by Ernest
Hemingway's memoir, a movie for you lovers of romance in this week's Petit Plaisir (as well as a breath-taking soundtrack), a festive outfit of the week and a new holiday film to enjoy as mentioned in the Word of the Week.
The
year is winding down, but so much good is yet to come. Wishing you a lovely, festive holiday weekend. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog!
