Enjoying the everyday. Being able to savor each moment, not dwelling on the past or worried about the future. Such a simple task, that in reality can be quite difficult. In fact, it is because it is so difficult that when we are finally able to appreciate the present, savor it, revel in it, we need to congratulate ourselves for allowing ourselves to be fully
present.
Have you been able to do this lately? Allowing myself to let go of future expectations is something I am always working on. For whatever reason, I am able to move forward from the past without much difficulty, but ever since I was a young
girl, I have always been planning, dreaming and preparing. In fact, I consider planning a hobby, not a chore. But there comes a point where planning and looking to the future needs to be relinquished.
Once we know our future is secure, or as secure as we
can make it in the present moment (saving for retirement, tending to our health, doing our best work in our career, etc.), we then need to give ourselves permission to take a deep breath and trust ourselves. When we do this, when we truly trust ourselves and where we currently are in the present, we need to be present.
For some this is an easier proposition than for others. I place myself in the "others" category, but to ease your mind, it is getting easier to let go. To not worry, "What will my future look like?!!" and instead trusting that my future will look just fine indeed due to the effort I have paid it, savings I have invested and education I have garnered along the
way.
Part of why I bring the idea of living in the present up is because sometimes we just don't know what life has in store for us. Yes, we have control over so much more than we realize, but somethings we just do not. Give yourself the biggest
gift of all this holiday season and establish a future plan, put in place savings, an outline for your life's direction and hop on. Then, let go and be present as often as possible. Who knows where your life will take you, but I have a feeling it will allow you to experience amazing moments of splendid rhapsody and cultivate unforgettable bonds and memories. Trust yourself, and then let go. Slowly, I am letting go, and so far, the ride has been going just
fine.
