Sometimes it is amazing how much can happen in a week's time, so much in fact that it can change your perspective, your direction, your attitude and either squash or boost your confidence. Such is the case this past week.

Often life leaves it up to us to determine if such occurrences will be positive or negative. In these instances, we truly do become the captain of our lives, the conductors of our very own symphony or navigate ourselves toward catastrophe. Such moments reveal what we are made of, and if we choose correctly, either the lesson need not be learned again, or if it does present itself, we can wave it off without a worry as we know precisely how to manage and manage well.

So as far as second chances are concerned, I have ample evidence that we do indeed receive them, and thank goodness for this because I must say I become quite ecstatic to discover I have a chance to get it right and a chance to, in many ways, have a clean slate. How wondrous of a gift is that?

Today, perhaps life has dealt you a dilemma or a fork in the road. Whatever you choose, refrain from doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Simple physics; it won't happen. While the unknowns are frightening, they are the chance we've each been given to get it right. And even if the outcome isn't perfect, because it never will be, it will most certainly be better and more enlightening than before.

Here's to the journey and for doing it better the second (or third) time around.

In this week's newsletter, stereotypes and more importantly, defying stereotypes, was the topic of this week's episode on The Simple Sophisticate.  I must admit, I adore nothing more than proving naysayers wrong when they assume I am incapable. And the good news is we each have the power, and it will most likely take all that we can muster, but it will be worth it. It will be absolutely worth it to rise above the limitations we may feel society has placed upon us. However, it is up to us to change the misperceptions.

With that said, sometimes we just have to let the comments of the ignorant and/or naysayers roll off and over our backs because to take on the negative attacks or digs is to place a burden on our shoulders unnecessarily, disabling each of us from doing what we do, what we need to do and preventing each of us from becoming what we are capable of. Rest assured, you will always have a cheerleader in me as you step forward each time it feels like this time may be more difficult than the last. It will be worth it. I can assure you, it will be worth it.

But back to leisurely business. It is the weekend after all, and after taking in a few films at the Bend Film Festival last weekend (tune in to this week's Petit Plaisir for one I highly recommend you go see), I am considering maybe taking in one more film this weekend as I share in this week's This & That. Otherwise I will be luxuriating in a restful couple of days. I hope you can do the same if that is what you desire. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
