The tag line for Nancy Meyers' new movie The Intern is "Wisdom never gets old", and as we move into fall here in the states, I began to contemplate the truth of this simple phrase.
No matter when we acquire wisdom, it is always a good thing. It is important to note that simply because we grow older in years, doesn't mean we are wiser. We must choose to grow, choose to learn and accept challenges and new ventures when we can at times easily settle for what is comfortable. But here's the catch: wisdom cannot be
acquired if we choose to stay put. And the frosting on the cake is that when we welcome wisdom, when we choose to accept the initial uncomfortable feeling that comes along with doing something new and letting go of what we know, our lives become more alive.
Similar to remaining curious, or in fact, remaining curious is precisely what fuels us to gain wisdom, so long as we remain in such a state, we can never truly be old. You see because as we gain new wisdom, we shed our old old selves and start anew, fresh and while at times we can feel vulnerable, it is also what makes us feel alive.
My challenge to you this weekend and to myself, is to become more comfortable with feeling uncomfortable as you choose to acquire new knowledge, experience new ways of going about your daily routines and, the big one, accept not knowing how tomorrow will unfold. Often the anxiety we feel about plans for the future and whether or not they will work out is a lack of
faith that no matter what happens, we'll be just fine.
I find myself in just that situation at the moment. A couple of events in my life are in limbo right now, but for the first time in my life, I am calm. In fact, one of the people I've been working
with commented about my serene nature as she thought it funny that they were on edge when typically it would be the other way around in the particular situation. I cannot predict the future, but I can put myself in the best position possible for the best results to occur. So regardless of what does, I will be just fine. I hope you find some comfort in the unknown more so than you have before. After all, it all begins with feeling secure within yourself and comfortable with the choices you make,
letting go of outside approval. Always remember, your approval is enough.
In this week's newsletter, we get back to specific ways to live a more simple, thereby, quality life. The idea of letting go of the unnecessary so that we can embrace the necessary.
Be sure to tune into this week's episode of The Simple Sophisticate for 17 ways to do just this. And I am always looking for statement jewelry that is understated, yet absolutely stunning, and I have found a designer that I am excited to introduce you to. She makes the gold necklace in this week's Outfit of the Week, so be sure to take a look (inexpensive, yet top quality).
I've talked your leg off this week, so I'll wrap it up and let you get to the newsletter. Have a lovely first weekend of fall, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
