"It's not over until it's over." Recently, a student shared this aphorism in class as we were kicking off the last unit of the year which is discussing and getting to know Morrie Schwartz in Tuesdays with Morrie. The assignment was to find a handful of beloved aphorisms that carry them through the day, and while this one at first glance may seem rather simple, at closer examination and with class
discussion, the students came to realize, as did I, that it is a wise lesson to heed.
In all of our lives, we can work, sweat, battle and plan until we are as close to the finish line as we had hoped, but sometimes, it seems we are confronted
with the sense that we can do no more and can't seem to cross the final threshold. It has been my experience, ironically, especially this week, that this aphorism came in handy.
Just when you think you can do nothing else, just when you think your
efforts have been futile, the dam breaks, the water pours, in fact gushes out, and everything you had hoped would unfold, does.
Overly general advice? Maybe. But wise advice? Indeed. Do not give up. After putting in as much effort as you have to
work toward your goals, you will be tested. You will be asked to throw up your hands and retreat, but do not give in. To copy another cliched statement, "Where there is a will, there is a way". Find that way, someone else will know something you don't know that will lead you to someone else who might be able to help you cross the finish line.
Life works out in unexpected ways. Call it magic, call it fate, but never call in sick and stop trying.
On a blog
business note: This week the daily blog email that many subscribers receive has finally been fixed. After three weeks of halted delivery, it somehow began working (okay, I say somehow because I asked for help, and my tech experts found a way, not me and I still cannot explain it, but I am beyond thankful for their talent - forgive the run-on sentence).
With that said, if you also subscribe to the daily feed that arrives in your inbox each day there is a new post, you may receive two identical emails (one from Feedburner and one from Aweber). Please delete your subscription to Feedburner (it will not affect your other subscription to Aweber). I am still working on the design of the new delivery, so forgive
the simplicity and rough aesthetic, but at least you will be assured to receive up-to-date alerts to the latest posts if that is what you would like.
As I mentioned in this week's episode of The Simple Sophisticate, a second episode is in
the works for the podcast, and it looks to be going live in mid-July. Right now a touch of French will be included for a brief mini-lesson from a talented French blogger that I highly respect, as well as news and information to keep you in the know as the weekend begins, so do be sure to stay tuned.
With that, I do hope you enjoy this week's newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
