One of my most beloved parts of each day is the morning. Feeling re-energized and a refreshed mind full of ideas waiting to execute them is a magical feeling. However, when the afternoon rolls around, I'm usually quite drained.

I know each one of us has a body clock that runs in its own unique way, but regardless of whether you are bounding from the bed in the morning or revved up when the evening unfolds, there most likely is a lull when you're not feeling at your peak.

Ever since I can remember, just after lunch and for a few hours, I am needing a chance to sit down, catch my breath and let my guard down. If I could take a nap regularly, I would not be adverse that in the least. But since a nap usually isn't in the cards, my second option is to come home for lunch and spend a few moments with my dogs, sit outside in the sunshine if the spring weather is cooperating and eat on the back balcony just outside my kitchen.

While seemingly simple, just these 15 or twenty minutes can be quite powerful. Now, if I had a full hour, I would love to toss in a leisurely walk, take time to read or peruse a magazine, and when I get the chance to indulge, I usually do.

When we become in tune with the language of our body, we are better able to care for it, respect it and in kind, it will reward us. We cannot go mock-eighty the entire day, every day and expect our bodies won't show the wear and tear. It will, and we will then be forced to comply by slowing down usually when we least are able.

So instead of waiting for our bodies to put on the brakes, why not, take a preventative measure this weekend. Assess what we need for our bodies and our minds to perform at their best. And believe it or not, if we listen carefully, we will be able to discern precisely what it needs.  All we have to do is take the time to listen.

Since it is the weekend, an opportunity to listen may be right around the corner. I know I will be taking some time to rest up - perhaps curling up with a new book (as shared in this week's This & That), taking walks with the dogs or taking some time to do some much needed exploring losing all track of time. Wherever your weekend takes you, have a wonderful time. And until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
