Traveling well takes time to figure out. At least
it has for me. I have always admired those individuals who gracefully go through the security lines without tugging along a pile of single items that seem to fall at the most inopportune times (you know what I'm talking about as the line begins to move and everyone is impatiently waiting to move forward, argh), or they nonchalantly board the plane without worrying there won't be space in the overhead compartment. Their attire, their travel tote is perfectly stocked, but not overstuffed, and
they seem to comfortably enjoy the flight right up to arrival time.
Such a persona has always been my goal because I enjoy traveling as it provides time to think, dream, read and plan, but it can be a stressful experience if we aren't
properly prepared.
Thankfully, with practice and much experience, I think I've figured it out. With the basics covered, knowing how much I can pack in my carry-on, and what I should wear to make it through security without too much undressing, as
well as stocking my tote to include my simple personal luxuries (Mariage Freres Vert Provence tea satchels, slumber mask and cashmere scarf), travel has become more of a pleasurable experience and not just something to be endured as I make my way to my
desired destination. And so in an effort to help you start off successfully without enduring my headaches, in 2012 I shared this post full of specific ways to ensure you fly in comfort.
The reason I bring up travel is that today, as you read, I will be in flight to a destination I have never been and always desired to go - New Orleans. TSLL Book Tour continues down to Louisiana, and it all came about because of readers like you. A suggestion from a
reader, and subsequent recommendations led me to The Garden District Book Shop which will be hosting the book signing and reading (wine and chocolate too!). You can be sure, I will be exploring the city and sharing what I find in the coming weeks here on the blog.
If you would have asked me five years ago if I could have foreseen all that has happened as 2015 has unfolded, I would have never imagined the opportunities the book and the blog have brought to fruition. I know many readers have asked to share how the blog and the book came to be (the behind the scenes mechanics), and it has taken longer than I
had expected to share, but know that it will eventually happen.
Most importantly, I encourage you to dream big. What as a child did you always wish you could do with your life? Begin chasing that dream now or keep striving toward what you dare. It will
happen. In one form or another, so long as you are truly passionate about it, amazing events and experiences will occur. Of that I can promise.
But now to more simple, everyday luxuries. It's the weekend, and that is indeed a sweet arrival.
Sunshine, blossoms and beautiful, fresh air. As with each spring, I feel a bit eager to do everything all at once and yet not sure what exactly to do at all as Mark Twain's quote says it best: It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want —oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want
it so! I do hope you have a wonderful weekend. However you spend it, whatever you do, indulge, relax, unwind and hit the restart button, spring is full of opportunities to hit the refresh button. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog. |
