,
I've come to realize recently, that there is very little an evening at home with candlelight, a good book and a cup of tea can't cure when I need to settle my thoughts and regain a clear understanding of what step I should take next.
There is
something about such a tranquil moment, the calm without fuss and the free flowing of thoughts to sort themselves out that has an initially unexpected effect. It is such moments that I now crave on a regular basis after any day that is full, rambunctious and while productive, exhausting.
In this week's
Thoughts from the Editor I shared a quote about the power of "No", and the need to let go of the idea of busy, and instead focus on giving our attention, and thus are best self, to our priorities.
This is often a shift that takes
time and may not be at first easy, but as one of my readers commented, Mimi, she stated that saying no without explanation is something rather powerful. In doing so, we do not give the recipient a chance to poke holes in our reasons, but rather stand firm in the fact that we simply can't do or do not wish to do what is being asked.
Even if we are saying no because we simply need time to be doing nothing, saying no, keeping our balance, is valid. In fact, I would argue that saying no to protect our time for empty, unscheduled moments is of high priority. For it is in these moments that our mind wonders, creativity is sparked and amazing, spontaneous ideas and moments come to life.
In other news, you may have learned this past Saturday that the first official book signing/reading of Choosing The Simply Luxurious Life: A Modern Woman's Guide was announced! New Orleans is the destination and I cannot wait to see this beloved city with my
own eyes. And in yet more book announcement news, I just secured an signing/reading event in my childhood town of Enterprise, Oregon. For many of you, this is very out of the way, but it was my hope to have the opportunity to work with the local bookstore - The Bookloft as it the ideal cozy, independent bookstore tucked away in a welcoming small town.
Whether you can attend any of these first few events, be sure to stay tuned as I am working on a few other events so you too can have an opportunity to ask questions about how to cultivate your very own simply luxurious life. Click here to learn about both of these events, the details and more.
Already February is zooming by, and I can't quite believe it. This weekend I will be wandering to Portland for a brief visit and then am looking forward to Sunday evening with the Oscars. With fingers crossed for Benedict Cumberbatch, I have no doubt whoever and whichever films walk away winners, they will be deserved, and without question, the gowns will be stunning. Be sure to stop by next Wednesday
for a round-up of my favorites.
Wishing you a lovely weekend, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
