 ,

Over the past weekend, I was sitting down with my mom having an early morning conversation, and she asked me a question that basically forced me to contemplate my own advice which I give on the blog - What "shoulds" are you following? In other words, I was forced to contemplate what I would have done if I had been true to my authentic direction, voice and inklings rather than being subconsciously swayed by outside dictates and voices.

And the good news is, I knew exactly what I would have done. But hearing myself say it was, in this instance, necessary.

As a teenager, I happened up on a quote that still drives me to this day in everything that I do. I will be honest, there have been a handful of years in my life when I lost track of this quote, figuratively speaking, but thankfully, I have returned to it and became quickly aware of why it is genuinely a mantra that rings true for what I desire my life to become.

“Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.” ― Dalai Lama XIV

So as I answered my mother's question, this quote began dancing around in my mind. Doing anything that is uncertain is most definitely frightening, but having chosen the safe route for a couple of years, I can attest, nothing worth achieving or experiencing usually is accomplished. However, I will temper that by saying that this is what fits my personality, tastes, and preferences, and one person's definition of risk may look completely different to someone else.

I think the risk-taking for each of us is something that stretches us, takes us out of our comfort zone. Because when we choose to grow or attempt to change our lives, life can become a tad trepidatious. But that is also when life can become exhilarating and create pinch-me moments. And that is the life I wish to lead. Don't you?

In this week's newsletter, an official pinch-me moment occurred: The official launch of Choosing The Simply Luxurious Life: A Modern Woman's Guide took place on December 16th. With both print and eBook formats are now available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Speaking of dreams coming true, read this post to see how not just mine, but your dreams as well can become a reality.

And as it is the holidays, I was thrilled when Tiffani Rogers of Style by Tiffani, a resident of New York City, offered to take TSLL readers on a holiday tour of NYC. With beautiful pictures of Bergdorf-Goodman's holiday windows this season and a few suggestions about where to go and how to best enjoy this festive time of year, be sure to check out this post.

On a brief business note, next Friday is TSLL newsletter's annual vacation and will resume on January 2nd. Also, from December 25-December 31, the blog will be spotlighting the top posts of 2014, so do be sure to stop by and get caught up. And rest assured, brand-new posts to kick off 2015 will begin bright and early on January 1st.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holidays. Wherever and with whomever this holiday season finds you, know that you have so much inner strength to create the life of your dreams. All it takes is that inner voice saying, I can, I will and let's get started.

A grand welcome to all of the new subscribers, and as always, to my long-standing loyal subscribers, I am truly blessed.  Thank you. Until 2015, I'll see you on the blog.

Lately I have been looking for a classic pair of black ankle strap sandals for holiday parties, but also just to have on hand as they are staple that will never go out of style. And while I love these from Manolo Blahnik, I couldn’t make myself expend so much money. So I was thrilled when I came across Stuart Weitzman’s black leather sandals for half the price. After they arrived at my house and were given a test run, I can confidently say, they are exactly what I was looking for. Whether you pair them with a dress or jeans as in today’s Outfit of the Week, a pair of these classic sandals is a must for every woman’s closet.
