Part of the reason I have always loved
mysteries is the desire to discover what cannot be known at the time the story begins. Any mystery writer worth their salt will tease and tantalize their readers, giving them hints, but never too much information to give the ending away.
Lately, I have been thinking about this plot design and what the necessary components are to cultivate the same intrigue, as well as reach a satisfying ending. And what I have come up with is that in order to create the attention-getting twists and turns, we must be an active participant in life. We must involve ourselves in our life story. We cannot sit idly by.
However, on the flipside, we also can push to far. We can't let the potential suspect know we are on to them (the parallel in our lives being the outcome we hope or think will unfold). It's not that we're playing a game, rather it is we are trusting life to unfold as it will, and we must not manufacture an outcome that isn't meant to
be.
I know this might sound farfetched, but once we understand and are in tune with the balance of participating, but not manipulating life, there is an ease that will be felt intrinsically. It will take some time to realize that this particular
feeling is the goal, much like balancing on one leg, but once we find that sweet spot, we will breath easier, we will savor the present moments more fully and we will enjoy what life wishes us to experience. Because it is when we allow ourselves to experience what is meant to be felt, that is when are better able to appreciate what life has to offer, even if at first it isn't occurring quickly enough.
While life may not proceed at the pace we desire, it will proceed at its necessary pace which means we can do ourselves the great favor of sitting back, letting go of the wheel and soaking it all up.
The first week of January has indeed been full and exhilarating, but without question, I am ready for a weekend to relax and recharge. How about you? How has 2015 begun so far? I want to thank readers who have taken the time to write such thoughtful reviews on Amazon: Carrie, Oona, Magda, Mary, Robbie and Debra. Regardless of how many stars you bestowed, thank you for your time, kind words and feedback.
Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
Shannon
