I will forever swear that there are magical powers in a small nibble of chocolate, freshly laundered bed linens and a book that helps to magically allow you to forget the day. Whether the day was full of exactly what you wanted or a day to be quickly forgotten, the comforts of home have amazing powers.
As I was buzzing around my house this week, wrapping up the last few orders of signed copies and jumpstarting plans for a holiday soiree to be held at my home just a few days before Christmas, I took a moment to stop being frazzled and instead be thankful. After all, it is easy to become overwhelmed and not appreciate what we are able to do
and enjoy. My house may be a bit of a mess right now, but knowing that each evening I can curl up with my dogs, step into a warm bed and read a book of my choosing is such a comforting feeling.
While these are a few of my favorite simple
luxuries to indulge in, especially in the winter (add a crackling fire, and I am beyond content), you no doubt have a few you can readily name off the top of your head. No matter how busy our lives get, no matter how many exciting goals we are chasing, it is when we slow down regularly to enjoy our simple pleasures that everyday life becomes more complete, fulfilling and all the more enjoyable. After all, if we don't allow ourselves downtime regularly, we aren't able to savor the life
we've created for ourselves.
I want to encourage you this weekend to take a moment to find your breath, sit down or snuggle in, and just revel in the life you've created up until this point. You most likely aren't done chasing your treasured dreams,
but I am most confident you are well on your way.
To set an example, I will be choosing my tree and setting up the home in its annual festive style this weekend. And the best part, the part I look forward to every year, is sitting by the fire after
the decorating is complete, making a favorite comfort meal and watching a classic holiday film. I don't know about you, but the only other perfect detail missing is snow. While it may not happen this time, I think I'll be able to manage. May you as well have a most wonderful, leisurely and festive weekend. Until next
week, I'll see you on the blog. Shannon
