Any habit that has become ingrained into our muscle memory, whether that muscle be physical or communicative, can be very hard to rewire even when we know the habit is the sole reason for our inability in
materializing the change we seek. For example, if we have been accustomed to immediately apologizing even if we aren't to blame, fidgeting when we are nervous, or doubting ourselves whenever we are in the middle of pursuing something we passionately desire, all of these behaviors are habit, have been repeated consistently and have in some capacity been a defense or survival behavior.
The difference between surviving and thriving is vast. Which is why we must become aware of the habits that are causing us to stumble and instead rewire our brain.
In an article posted in 2013, specifics were shared on how to rewire our minds and behaviors in order to starve out bad habits and become acclimated to new, beneficial habits. Have a
look: - Realize that you can change almost anything
- Give new habits lots of energy through practicing them or imagining doing them
- Work on only one
or two at a time that require self-control
The good news is that the change we seek is possible; however, what we must accept is that it will initially take a lot of energy to procure said new habits. Thankfully in the end, it
will be worth it.
The first step is to recognize which habits do not represent who you are or who you know you are capable of being. Are you a confident individual,
but when placed in challenging situations, lose your strength to speak up or talk with resolute certainty? Do you find your thoughts immediately assuming the worst no matter what the situation which clouds your ability to see the truth? Such detrimental habitual thinking can be retrained, and I am confident you will tap into the courage to make that change a reality. Your life will be far richer and fulfilling as you will be aligning your thoughts with behavior that is
conducive to the life you wish to create for yourself.
The mid-point of November will be here tomorrow and that means we are one day closer to Thanksgiving, one day closer to Christmas and one day closer to 2015. The time it has flown, but perhaps that is a
good thing. Whatever may be true, all I know is that the Pacific Northwest was hammered yesterday, and the pummeling continues this morning with freezing temperatures and beautiful, seemingly infinite falling snow flakes.
With a snow day
to leisure about and enjoy, I'm looking forward to making the most of a long weekend. And whether you are enjoying a one, two or three day weekend, I hope you take a little time for yourself, spend time with loved ones or work on a beloved project. Isn't that what weekends are for?
