What if?
A question we often pose to ourselves before we leap, and sadly a question asked when we look back in regret for not taking a chance on something that captured our full attention.
The former instance of asking such a question is fueled with excitement as well as a touch of apprehension because the outcome is opaque, but the latter instance of asking the question can sit in our stomach like a pit and be a reminder of how playing it safe just might have been the worst
idea.
Life speaks to us, gives us opportunities and reveals to us paths that we may not have known were open or available. Often we are awoken to possibilities that we ourselves have previously closed due to society's expectation, set mores and
judgments.
But if something speaks to us - a dream that will not leave our imagination, a hobby that we so eagerly want to try or a risk that would be riskier not to try than to attempt, we must consider leaping - trying.
While we may end up flat on our face, with on-lookers saying "I told you so." Wasn't the thrill, the excitement, the adrenaline rush worth it? I must say, from past experience, I've never regretted trying something that initially frightened me.
I bring this up today because in the past couple of weeks, two events that were completely unrelated shook me, and reminded me that life is precious. Life can be so terribly short, and if we g0 about our business assuming that we have years and decades to live, we may just
miss a most beautiful chance to live an extraordinary life.
Today, consider what excites you, what tugs at you to try. And then ask yourself, what if it did all work out? If it did all work out, the mandatory involvement is to leap. As I type, I'm
leaping. Are you?
In this week's podcast, Jennifer L. Scott, best-selling international author and lifestyle blogger of The Daily Connoisseur, joined me for a the Petit Plaisir as her new book was just released this past Tuesday. Honestly, I was
giddy that she said yes to my invitation, and couldn't recommend more highly At Home With Madame Chic. Full of endless ideas of inspiration on how to live well at home - so simple, yet so thoughtful - you will not be disappointed.
And I must take a
moment to express a great thank you to one of TSLL readers, Toni, who this past summer offered to paint a portrait of Norman. Now retired and diving into her passion of painting, Toni's Animal Art is a business that if you are a pet-owner, you will certainly want to check out. Below in my Instagram pics you will see the rendering she gave me of Norman which promptly was situated on my office shelves. Thank you
very, very much Toni.
Lastly, the weekend arrives and the leaves are beginning to turn. The golden giants and bronzed columns of Mother Nature are some of my favorite things to see each and every year. Wherever your weekend takes you, I hope you have a
delightful time, and thank you for subscribing to TSLL weekly newsletter. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
