,
And the rains came this week,
and continued to fall, to soothe and provided a bit of a respite from the hot heat that has been unrelenting. While some parts of the country received record amounts of rain (13.14 inches in Long Island, New York), others simply felt and smelt the gift of a summer rain.
Whether it is the respite or the change in expectations, or perhaps a little bit of both, the freshness of the air reminded me that even when we think nothing will change, eventually it does, and we're usually more appreciative when it occurs, so long as we're prepared at the most basic sense - safety, financial footing, sense of self and self-confidence,
etc.
There is a wealth of opportunities that come with change, and while it is understandable why some people are uncomfortable with it, more often than not, change can bring so
many wonderful blessings to our lives. Perhaps a change to demonstrate the lessons we've now accomplished, to take our abilities to the next level, to experience something we never felt possible or to live in such a way that was initially out of our peripheral vision.
Along the way, as change occurs, it is quite helpful to have a few people supporting you and cheering you on with sincerity and excitement, but so long as you have that trust in yourself that was created based on what you've accomplished this far, you will indeed find the goodness that life is eager to bestow upon you. Now it is up to you to accept the offering.
So whether it's an abrupt arrive of a summer rain, a relationship change, a career shift or a relocation to a new town, look for the sweetness, look for the opportunity, because trust me, it's
there.
Well, believe it or not, it is the middle of August. The last month of summer is about to begin, but also, it is Julia Child's birthday (August 15th). Ahh, a woman who followed her
passion, who refused to stop searching until she found it and didn't apologize for being exactly who she was - simply fabulous. I don't know about you, but there is a magic that comes with cooking - whether a Julia Child in the kitchen or not - food, the preparation, can truly be a magical experience. I had the opportunity to view The One Hundred Foot Journey (starring Helen Mirren) this past week, and I must say, if you are a foodie or even if you have the slightest appreciation for
good food, you will devour it - a must see indeed.
Speaking of other items to devour, fashion. The fall collections are beginning to become available in the stores and online, and that
means . . . TSLL Fall Shopping Guide is about to be released as well to TSLL newsletter subscribers (you!). Arriving in your inbox on Monday September 1st, be prepared to discover the trends of the season to splurge on and to save on, as well as a plethora of items to shop directly from the newsletter. This season the format is better than ever, and I can't wait to
reveal it to you.
One last note. A few weeks ago, I announced the upcoming podcast The Simple Sophisticate that I will
begin broadcasting. As I wanted to make sure I had all of the details worked out and my understanding of how it all worked was ready to go, I originally scheduled it to begin in October. It is with a great excitement that due to things going well, I am ready to go far earlier than expected. So, I am thrilled to announced the podcast will premiere one month earlier on Monday September 8th just as the new season begins in all of our lives. Be sure to tune in by stopping by TSLL blog.
Now to this week's newsletter. What you'll discover is a bit more
fashion, as well as a flashback to my college days as I scour it for life lessons and share a few war stories along the way. Also, a wonderful discount on top quality Italian leather handbags (you don't want to miss this week's This & That). I do hope you enjoy.
Have a lovely weekend, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
