There is something serene about the rain in spring.
Perhaps it appears more tranquil following an extended winter, but when the rain began steadily falling Thursday morning and into the afternoon, it seemed fitting to turn on Count Basie's "April in Paris", throw on my rain coat and take Norman for a walk (he loves the rain, Oscar on the other hand prefers the comfort of our home when the wet weather arrives).
Since I know that these spring rains are few and far between where I live, I try to savor them whenever they arise. A simple pleasure that costs nothing but my time, and upon returning home, I always feel refreshed and more at ease than when I walked out the door.
The beauty of incorporating simple pleasures into our lives is that it requires very little expense, and only asks that we be conscious and fully present. For when we are present, appreciating the comfort, calm and sincere joy of the situation, we can often put into perspective other things in our lives as
we go about the rest of our days.
In 2010 I shared a list of simple pleasures that can
easily be brought into everyday living and have the potential to increase the quality of any given day no matter where we live, how much money is in the bank or our age. Last Sunday, Le Week-end's Petit Plaisir involved a jaunt to a boutique in Portland that offered a treasure to create a simple vignette for spring. It always amazes me how such simple choices can bring a smile or brighten a room. Never underestimate the seemingly small, yet amazingly powerful things you can do to alter
the quality of your days. You truly can alter the atmosphere, energy and attitude of your environment without overwhelming stress or exertion.
Speaking of altering one's environment, TSLL Home Tour will be resuming next week, so do be sure to stop by as the final room in the series will be revealed. Thank you in advance for your patience, but in the meantime, if you've been looking for simple ways to master television that will actually save you money and bring more quality viewing into your
life, check out this week's Why Not . . .? And while Wednesday's post was well received, Monday's motivational post was the readers' favorite. With a lengthy list of simple routines to maintain the simply luxurious life you've created for your life, you can be sure that living well become an everyday habit without excessive effort.
As the weekend arrives, perhaps you have plans to relax and enjoy a few more simple pleasures. Whatever you enjoy, indulge guilt-free because the life you've created is most certainly worth savoring. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog. |
