,
As the Olympics begin to wind down this weekend, I found myself contemplating the bobsled competition and how with just a slight adjustment to the steering of the sled, an ordinary run can become extraordinary (or visa versa). And I couldn't help but begin to apply this lesson to life.
Whenever a change is desired, often a large adjustment or shift is considered as the only option, but really that may not be the case. Using the bobsled's navigating to a successful run as our guide, we too can institute small, seemingly benign changes, that can indeed have a tremendous effect on the quality of our lives.
Whether we choose to find one more hour of sleep, let go of just one task that crowds our schedule ever more unnecessarily or swap water for soda as our body's first choice when dehydrated, over time, these simple changes can drastically improve our energy levels, time and stress, as well as overall
health.
Lately, I have been trying to master my daily routine as I am aching to squeeze in a weekly yoga class again. I know eventually I will figure out a way, with a small change here and there, to provide a touch of breathing room to my schedule. And perhaps that
is what can be the motivator to make these changes - a desire to incorporate something we know will be enjoyable, helpful and complementary to the simply luxurious life we are creating for ourselves. When we know what our lives need to thrive, rather than assuming that the change that is necessary, in order to allow for the life we want, is large and daunting, why not first examine what small changes can be made? Remember the bobsled - a soft, subtle touch can mean the difference between
the Olympic podium and the bottom of the heap.
In this week's newsletter, small adjustments that offer big results are at the forefront of Monday and Wednesday's posts. With money saving strategies and the many powerful benefits of yoga, this week's blog posts were full
of tips everyone can benefit from no matter what your income, age or fitness preference.
Also, this week's Petit Plaisir is a chocolate treat I am excited to share. As I mentioned in the post, while it looks intimidating, it is quite simple indeed. So if
you're in search of a dessert to enjoy and boost your baking confidence, I have a feeling I have just what you're looking for.
And for those of you who want a peek into my teaching world, you now will have your chance. I had the opportunity to be
interviewed by two former students, and I was blown away by their profile piece (I realize I may be bias, but honestly these ladies are talented). I want to thank Courtney, Sara and the editor of the PHS Lantern Rachel for their generous write-up, and congratulations on the continued and growing success of their high school E-paper. And with that, I am eager for the weekend to begin. With a small dinner party with loved ones, a quick jaunt to Portland, and finishing up a writing project, this
weekend couldn't come too soon. May you find time to catch your breath, dance around the house as you please and most importantly, find some time to indulge in a simple luxury or two.
Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
