Good morning

It so happened this week that after much contemplation, I made a decision that to me was quite significant, but to others would seem far from extraordinary. And it also happened that on the next day, the dreadful fog that I have been cursing for nearly two weeks lifted and blue skies and sunshine were visible and oh, so magnificent. Now, in my fairy-tale mind, I presumed it was a sign from something or someone patting me on the back for doing something that had been causing great consternation and worry; however, back on planet earth my rational mind knew it really was the change in air pressure and weather patterns. Needless to say, I stuck to my story as it made me smile far more readily and helped for a better day to materialize.

The reason I share this story is to remind you of the power our minds can have on each and every day. We can tell it wonderful, heartwarming things to put a spring in our step or stew and toil in worry over things that aren't going as planned. Both decisions will affect our mood, our circumstances and the events that transpire out of each scenario we are a part of throughout the course of the day. And so it really is a reminder to choose wisely the audio tape that is our thoughts as it plays repeatedly throughout our waking hours.

In this week's Why Not . . . ? I shared my experience with meditation and how it has enhanced and transformed my ability to become more mindful, thus helping me to better  master my thoughts. There is something so instantaneous when we are the one's in the drivers' seat when it comes to determining what fleeting thought will run across our mind at any given moment rather than the world tugging our mind where it wishes it to go.

The theme of being the curator of lives is mentioned repeatedly on the blog, and perhaps I repeat myself too often, but I hardly think we should forget that we have so much more control over our lives than we first presume. What an amazing gift and something to not cast aside so easily, or for that matter, at all.

In today's newsletter, last weekend's Petit Plaisir is shared, and if you are looking for a dinner to enjoy without a lot of fuss, you will want to have a look. Also, Monday's post was all about style and the resolutions to aspire to in 2014. And of course, I've done some shopping for you, as well as discovered a few things you might enjoy in this week's This & That (hint - Rachel Zoe and stripes).

Also, you may have noticed there are a few slight changes to the newsletter's format. Why, you might be wondering. With more and more subscribers accesses their newsletter with their tablets and phones, I wanted to make sure the newsletter was just as easy to read on a computer as it was if you were scrolling through it on your iPad or smartphone. I do hope you like it.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the first few days of what I am confident will be a beautiful and splendid February. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

-Shannon

Outfit of the Week: No. 5

Today's Outfit of the Week narrowly was selected over Victoria Beckham's pencil skirt style (which is partially why I included yet another image of her just in case you want to vote for her outfit again), and I must say the Michael Kors' Selma tote has captured my attention. A simple outfit for errands and weekend comfort without losing a bit of style.
