Happy Friday! Happy day with sunshine and no more snow here in the Pacific Northwest! Happy to
be alive day! Oh, and that's right . . . Happy Valentine's Day! While I've never been a huge cheerleader over the event of Valentine's Day, I have to admit, any day that brings more love into the world is certainly a very good thing.
However, did you know that the history
of Valentine's Day isn't about love, but rather fertility? The Ides of February as it is actually known (the middle of February) was a day where women were pounced upon, not necessarily adored, in hopes of producing an heir. Now that sounds like a day to celebrate (note my tone of sarcasm). Okay, okay, I'm raining on the parade and purpose of this modern celebration. Or am I simply proving the point of a recent studies that revealed the Valentine's Day Bias is indeed alive and
well?
A study revealed in the journal Psychology Science recently that many respond to Valentine's Day based on their life situation at that moment. Aptly named 'The Way I Am is the Way You Ought to Be', the scientists findings showed that most people perceive their relational status as unchangeable and thus are motivated to idealize their state.
Interesting, indeed, and if true, insightful into every person you
meet today without them directly sharing anything personal.
Speaking of love and embracing the life you are living, this study is serendipitously timed with
this week's Monday's motivational post which sparked much conversation. Having it All: A New Definition discusses the phrase so many women of all lifestyle choices get asked, "Can you
really have it all?" My thoughts on this question are shared, and I urge you to join the conversation.
And as New York Fashion Week has just wrapped up, I have gathered together my favorite looks on TSLL pinterest page. Have a look and feel free to share. Speaking of fashion, I would have been remise if I didn't share a stylish fashion moment that occurred this week at the White House. Have a look below to discover what Carolina Herrera's talents have been up to. And if you're looking for a wrap dress or two to add to your capsule wardrobe, you won't want to miss this week's Why Not . . . ? post.
As Valentine's Day kicks off the weekend, I will be savoring an evening of a wonderful homemade meal, perhaps a recipe I have been curious to try, a glass of wine and giddiness about my weekend treasure hunting for my living room vignettes that I am eager to style. Simple, yes. Ideal, indeed, indeed. I have a
feeling you will be up to something uniquely fabulous as well. And so long as you are enjoying yourself, that is all that matters.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone and know that the love you seek begins with loving the unique person that you are and always will
be.
Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
