Yesterday would have been French nobel prize winning author Albert Camus' 100th birthday. And as I was listening to a podcast regarding his essay "The Myth of Sisyphus" in relation to today's worker (listen here),  the concept of choosing a job you enjoy to work at was the focal point of the discussion.

Now so many people have a job - a job which pays the bills and puts food on the table. Yet even with this economic stability, many still long to work somewhere else. How modern day philosophers applied Camus lesson taught in his essay was to suggest that it is our responsibility to bring meaning to our work, rather than to expect the work to provide meaning.  In other words, we are responsible for our own contentment or state of boredom. We are responsible for adding spice or taking on challenges at our place of work. We are ultimately the one's who decide to take risks, try doing something differently or learning something new. It is when we recognize that our approach to life is the greatest predictor to our state of happiness, that we can stop searching outside of ourselves and start stirring the creativity that already exists within ourselves.

And since we are the creators of our own happiness, if you are by chance trying to change things up in order to jump start your life, here is a post you might enjoy from the archives . . .

And speaking of reinventing, when you visit the blog this weekend, you will notice a blog remodel has been underway. I want to thank you for your patience as the switch was made last weekend. And while nearly everything is complete, there is still work being done by my designer, so keep an eye out for small, but signature additions and updates these next few weeks.

As with any change, hiccups occur and learning curves become a bit steeper, but my hope was to create a blog that is easier for readers to navigate as you are able to find exactly what you were looking for when you took the time to stop by. Please feel free to email me with any suggestions or ideas that would make the blog even more user-friendly.

In the newsletter this week you'll find one of my favorite holiday drink recipes which I borrowed from Oprah many years ago, as well as a conversation about true luxury, the benefits of refraining from judging others and a simple style idea when it comes to choosing your holiday outfits for the upcoming gatherings.

May your November be off to a great start, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

Splurge & Save Outfit: No. 32

While finishing up a capsule wardrobe for one of my clients this week, I came across a simple black dress from Kate Spade. And then an idea came to me as I've been contemplating my holiday wardrobe for the month of December. Why not wear a simple black dress and wear fabulous heels either bold in color or style?

So with that black dress in mind, today's Splurge & Save Outfits transpired. Often a simple basic can magically come alive with new and beautiful accessories. For example, have a look at the earrings in the Splurge outfit, as well as the pop of color with the coat that can easily work for day or evening. A stunning dress that can be worn at far more events than simply during the holidays and accessories that make an entrance.

Whether you choose bright signature heels or statement making jewelry, have fun and let your fashion sense shine this holiday season.
