I have come to learn that society is much more comfortable laughing or poking fun at something that other people are laughing and poking fun at as well. I have come to understand that society is easily motivated to follow what the other guy says is cool. I have come to understand that it is easier to act as others expect than to think before acting.
In coming to understand all of these observations, I have come to the conclusion that living a life that is one to be proud of, living a life that means you are leaving a legacy that leaves the world even just a smidgen better than when you were born takes conscious effort, contemplation and a willingness to think before acting.
I believe that many people wish to live this way, but often life, the busyness, the demands and the expectations, get in the way. And when these barriers stand in our path, it is mandatory that we slow down and edit our lives so that we can live a life that is something to be proud of, otherwise whose life are we living?
Graduation season is upon us, and one of the books I have found to be a wonderful graduate gift is Randy Pausch's The Last Lecture which helps to provide a reminder of how to go about living one's life so as to be proud with one's choices upon reflection. One of the many quotes that I found inspiring was the muse for today's post from the archives . . .
In this week's newsletter, travel was the focus of attention with Wednesday's Why Not . . . Travel Alone? . The beginning of a two part series, this week's post shares the benefits of finding the gumption to travel on one's own, and I was thrilled to discover many readers' first-hand experiences as they shared that they too found the gift that such travel can provide.
I do believe summer has arrived, and whether you are out of school or not, have nothing to do with school anymore or simply are aching to get started with your upcoming vacation, it's time to dress and live with a bit more leisure without losing a bit of style. In this week's Style Inspiration and Save & Splurge Outfit, ideas and simple creative ways to have fun without your wardrobe wasting money on trends are shared.
And regardless of whether you want to shop or not, taking time to relax, unwind and recharge are a must. This weekend I hope you are able to find time to do exactly what you need. Whether it's a long pleasurable conversation over good food and drink, an adventurous trek in the outdoors or shutting your eyes a little longer than you are able to do during the week, have a lovely and much deserved weekend. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
