,
Over the past two weeks, a project has been underway at my house that I have been patiently waiting for these past seven years - an automatic sprinkler system. It was during this process of watching my yard be torn up that I came to realize a lesson about change and progress.
The improvements we seek in life and the changes that are often worth our efforts won't magically occur without a bit of disruption to our lives and a slight unsettled feeling as we wade into the waters of taking the leap toward the new reality we seek.
Much like the temporarily destroyed lawn, in order to reshape and improve our lives, we must be willing to feel uncomfortable.
Now
it is imperative that the unsettled feeling is arising from a place that is natural, not a place in which we doubt that the outcome will be worth our time, effort and money. In other words, we must do our homework beforehand, seek out recommendations from other satisfied customers, or investigate how others have attained the success we wish to acquire. In other words, we must put the odds in our favor, and that is the knowledge that will allow us to sleep sounder at night even when the lawn is still torn up and in the middle of the demolition.
As I write this, my lawn is put back together, the sprinklers magically appear in the early morning without any effort from me as I gradually wake from a peaceful slumber and any worries I might have had are gone. A similar successful outcome is possible in any improvement you wish to make when you choose to set your mind to put the odds in your favor and invest in yourself. In such an instance, measure twice and cut once is always a good maxim to follow.
As motivation to take that risk and make that leap that you've been perpetually dreaming about, a post from the archives you might enjoy . . .
In this week's newsletter, an extra post from last weekend inspired by a new decor book that is full of inspiration - Weekend Morning Comforts includes some of my favorite "creature comforts" to indulge in as any day off arrives. Do have a look and feel free to share your creature comforts as well.
And with May beginning, who isn't excited to begin frequenting their local farmers' market. Today my community's weekly farmers' market opens for the season which inspired this week's Why Not . . . ? post - click here to read.
While this weekend will find me digging in the dirt, planting my favorite herbs and arranging one or two bouquets for the house, I hope you as well will be able to enjoy the beautiful weather and the beginning of one of the most beautiful months of the year. Until next week, I will see you on
the blog.
