When the learner is ready, the lessons become available is a common aphorism; however, based on my experience and looking back on my life, I realize that life lessons had presented themselves many times, but it took time for me to be able to understand what I was experiencing.

Even though it would be wonderful to not have to learn everything first-hand, often the most powerful lessons are those we experience with our own eyes and hearts. Because when we only live vicariously, we can't truly know what it feels like to be in the room when the event occurs. We can guess what it might have felt like, but often to change our world, to adjust our mindset and approach, we must be present.

This past week I have found myself in Portland and in New York City - two of my favorite cities. And I was struck more times than I would have ever expected by realizations and lessons that up until now had not been completely absorbed.

The bottom line is we have to put ourselves out there, we have to take the necessary risks, we have to be willing to see things with our own eyes if we are to live a contented and fulfilling life. Because when we only spend our lives sitting on the sidelines, we wonder and regret based on what the media projects and what other people tell us; however, when we take the initiative and put ourselves in the game, we learn lessons we might never would have expected. And it is when we apply these lessons that we are able to live a most contented life.

And post from the archives you might enjoy on the topic of contentment . . .

Want & Have Outfit:

No. 27

For many, Easter festivities, meals and gatherings will be taking place this weekend, and I couldn't help but dream up an outfit that would welcome spring and imbibe sophisticated elegance.

As well as being a stunning outfit for such a special occasion, each piece can be used for work, play or everyday depending on your style preference. The Iris & Ink silk blouse is a wonderful line from The Out Net, and if their fine cashmere sweaters are any indication, this top will be a pleasant addition of quality and frugality for such a fine product.

Have a wonderful last weekend of spring and enjoy wearing your best for the occasion.
