"Go the extra mile; there's no traffic on it!"
- Tony Gaskins | |||||||||||||||||
find Tony Gaskins' above quote to very true and upon realizing this, I can't help but begin to believe that anything is possible if we are willing to put in our best work, then learn even more and work harder than we thought we initially ever could in order to accomplish what appeared at one point to be impossible.
Recently, with 2012 just around the corner, I began to feel the tingle of excitement, anticipation and wonder that comes with each new year. What will it bring? How will my life be different one year from now? And most importantly, what do I want to accomplish and improve upon during the next twelve months?
For me the last few weeks in December, after all of the holiday plans have been made and gifts have been purchased, is a time to make sure I am ready to commence with a whole-hearted bang when January 1st arrives. Let me explain . . . I recently ordered my Franklin Covey planner's refill products, and I was grinning from ear to ear. Yes, I am that much in love with planning and taking aim at goals.
December provides the perfect end to any year. It offers a time to celebrate, reflect, spend time with those who are most important in your life and time to appreciate all that is going well. There is a sense of closure that December brings, and that is why I think it a productive idea to reflect upon what went well, what you are appreciating in your life at this moment, and then, look forward to what could be in the new year.
If you can, carve out an hour or two and try this exercise - reflect first and make a list of what the past year has afforded you that you are thankful for, and then look forward and be honest, but also push yourself when writing down what you'd like to see change or occur next year because this life is ours to mold into what we desire.
With less than two weeks before Christmas, the shops are becoming more cluttered with shoppers desperately scouring for the perfect gifts, the mail carriers are submerged in multiple packages as they trot about on the streets making endless deliveries, and the calendar is still begging for a few more entries. I don't know about you, but this particular weekend I am thankful to be slowing down a bit before the rest of the month takes off at its own breakneck pace. Perhaps a lavender scented bubble bath, time to snuggle with my dogs and a visit to my much needed yoga class. Needless to say, I am ready to re-establish my balance so that the remainder of the month is magical, and I can soak up every single moment.
I want to thank all of the many subscribers who took the time to send me an email last week after receiving last Friday's newsletter. I was overwhelmed by your kindness and can't thank you enough. What thrills me is that with each letter, I am reminded of how many amazing people reside in our world who desire to make their life and others even better. That is what inspires me. I truly feel blessed and very fortunate.
Have a beautiful weekend and remember that it is okay to slow down just long enough to catch your breath. After all, the holidays were meant to be enjoyed and savored. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
