"All adventures, especially into new territory, are scary."
- Sally Ride (astronaut) No. 74 Friday, November 11, 2011 | |||||||||||||||||
etting yourself fall into something that is unknown is a bit terrifying, but if done correctly can be very exhilarating and uplifting.
Today, my cousin is getting married. And I can think of nothing more demanding of faith, commitment and love than to vow to work with someone, love someone and be there for someone for the rest of your life than marriage.
Trusting ourselves and getting to know ourselves is the first and most vital part of the foundation prior to making such a commitment to another. And once this is adhered to adequately the individual realizes how easy it is to rely on oneself to get through life. However, when entering into a marriage, the trust is placed in someone we have no control over, and shouldn't want to control for that matter if we truly desire a healthy relationship. This is not easy to ask of any person because so much is built together when involved in a marriage.
However, as the discussed in this Wednesday's Why Not . . .? post, choosing to take a risk doesn't mean we know how it will turn out. What it means is that we accept that things may not turn out as we had planned, but we do our best, and put forth our best self to be certain that in hindsight we know we gave it our all. And with so many things in life, the time will come when the risk will work out and far exceed your expectations.
Whether you are married, about to be married, involved with someone you care deeply about or are single, go about your day to day life doing your best, giving it everything you know how and trusting that risks are worth taking if approached with a rational mind and an ability to be open to what they may bring into our lives.
![]() This week's newsletter includes a few posts that remind us that our lives, the outcomes, are more in our control than we may realize or what to accept. For example, this week's favorite post discusses the idea of luck and ultimately asks, why not stop calling it luck. After all, isn't it something we create and grasp for ourselves?
Another aspect that I highly suggest each of us include in our lives is to take risks. Now I'm not talking about the spontaneous, ill-thought out type of risks. I'm talking about risks that while they might be achingly hard to handle if they don't work out, also have the potential to bring bountiful riches into our lives that currently don't exist.
Life is most certainly meant to be lived, to be stretched, tested and thoroughly savored. And the only way to do that is appreciate that it won't exist as it does today forever. If we accept that our lives are far more fleeting than we sometimes choose to forget, I think we would all live to our fullest potential, surprising and amazing ourselves in the process.
This weekend (for some of us an extended holiday weekend), ask yourself if there is something that you should be grasping for or letting go of if it is holding your back (waiting for luck to occur, instead of actively trying to create it). Then vow to improve your approach, if only making a fracture of a difference. I have a feeling what you will realize is that you have so much more control of the direction of your life than you realize. I hope you are well and looking back over a week that was challenging, but productive, exhausting, but rewarding. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

Style Suggestion
The cooler months call for more layers and warmth. After having stopped into Anthropologie last week, I tried on the tiered stripes dress. Let me just say that it is extremely comfortable and very flattering on many different body types. I can easily see myself wearing this for flying, casual gatherings for cozy evenings. To wear out and about, wear an over- sized cardigan, sweater coat or blazer, cinch with a belt, keep your legs warm by wearing tights, and voila!
